Maija Linturi is a Helsinki-based artist who works in the fields of puppet theatre and performing arts. She has graduated from the puppet theatre department of Turku University of Applied Sciences in 2010. Since her studies, Linturi has been interested in the interdisciplinarity in arts, and she has collaborated with f.ex. dance-, theatre- and video artists. Linturi is currently completing her master’s degree in the Live Art and Performance Studies programme in Theatre Academy.
During the last few years Linturi’s works have mostly dealt with encounters, power relations, differences and similarities between human and nonhuman, and she has actively strived towards a non-anthropocentric way of making art and looking at the world. The question of how to reach out towards and perform more-than-human experiences without appropriating, simplifying or anthropomorphizing them is at the core of her praxis.
In addition to making art, Linturi has studied animal training in Suomen Eläinkoulutuskeskus.
